Breast Reduction Candidates | Beverly Hills Plastic SurgeryIn recent years, breast reduction cosmetic surgery procedure has become more popular among different age groups of women. It is possible to restore youthful looking and well proportioned breasts with this surgery for women who are bothered by disproportionately large breasts. Candidates typically improve their self-esteem and have an enhanced confidence due to more attractive bust line.

Breast reduction also offers physical benefits in terms of relief from strain and discomfort that is usually associated with heavier breasts. Women can perform any types of sports activities, exercise and bending movements, and wear the clothes of their choice.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast reduction to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Candidacy

Any woman who is unhappy with the appearance of oversized, pendulous breasts or feel restricted in performing certain types of activities and daily chores, or is unable to wear clothes of choice, may be a suitable candidate for breast reduction cosmetic surgery. Many women also seek this surgery to get permanent relief from pain in the shoulders, neck or back caused due to overly large breasts, or rashes and skin irritation in the breast crease.

One of the important considerations while determining candidacy will be the patient’s age. The surgeon will consider whether her breast development is completed before recommending breast reduction. However, an exception to this rule may be when the patient is suffering from severe or persistent pain or debilitation due to oversized breasts.

The candidate should not be having any cancerous or pre-cancerous breast tissue prior to breast reduction surgery. If required, the surgeon may order specialized mammograms in some cases. A good candidate will ideally not have any future plans to breastfeed because the surgery will take out some of the key milk ducts that are connected to the nipples. Judicious and well-practiced plastic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast reduction.

Standard Breast Reduction Candidates

Standard breast reduction, involving an anchor pattern technique, is more appropriate for women with excessively large breasts. Women with dense breast tissue, more glandular tissue than fat, and those who have not yet reached their menopause may also make stellar candidates for standard breast reduction surgery.

Vertical Incision Candidates

Women with moderate to large sizes breasts, but not too oversized or pendulous in character, may be candidates for vertical incision breast reduction technique. Breast reduction in these women may be performed to satisfy their aesthetic needs or to help improve the pain condition and movement limitations arising due to large breasts.

Fat Tissue Reduction Candidates

In some women, the amount of glandular tissue may be minimal, but the amount of fat tissue may be fairly high. These candidates would be more suited for scar-less breast reduction technique. This procedure will only involve liposuction surgery to remove unwanted fatty tissue deposits. This procedure is less invasive and the recovery will faster and simpler than with other breast reduction techniques.

Breast Reduction Surgery Before and After Photos | Beverly HillsBreast reduction is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to reduce the size of excessively large breasts to make them more proportionate to the rest of the body. At the time of pre-op consultation, the surgeon will discuss various aspects of breast reduction and may also present breast reduction before and after photographs before the patient.

The surgeon’s first concern will be to educate the patient about the procedure and help her make an informed choice. Patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive breast reduction from board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim.

What are Breast Reduction Before and After Images?

Before and after images in case of breast reduction surgery refer to a set of pictures belonging to a previous patient who has undergone the same procedure with successful results. The pictures include images taken prior to the procedure and after the procedure at a stage when post-operative swelling and bruising has been resolved and full effects of breast reduction cosmetic surgery have been established.

The surgeon will take care to ensure that the photographs are obtained with the patient’s proper consent and presented before new patients in a discreet way. The identity of the patient may be kept undisclosed as required. The surgeon’s only purpose in this exercise is to use these photos as a visual aid to explain the potential effectiveness of breast reduction to new patients.

Advantages

When a woman seeks breast reduction surgery, she may not necessarily have a clear idea of how the procedure may help to achieve her personal cosmetic needs, and whether it will create a desirable shape and size of breasts as she wants. Some women may need only minor reduction, which may be performed using just liposuction.

In other cases, a substantial amount of fat tissue removal may be required. Some women will need repositioning of the nipples as well as additional procedures such as breast lift to meet their unique goals. In each situation, the patient can make more effective decisions when she has access to breast reduction before and after photos.

Keeping Reasonable Expectations

Women who have a positive frame of mind, clear aesthetic priorities and reasonable expectations will usually achieve the best satisfaction levels from breast reduction surgery. Therefore, and experienced plastic surgeon will prefer to present breast reduction before and after photos at the very first appointment.

This will help the patient to know clearly what breast reduction can or cannot do for her. The risk of any misunderstanding or disappointment occurring at a later stage will be mitigated, and the patient will be able to appreciate the final results much better. Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast reduction.

Photos on the Web

The surgeon may choose to provide breast reduction before and after photos on their practice website for free access to all. If the surgeon is active on social media, they may also disseminate the photos via major social networks such as Facebook, Google+, Instagram, and Pinterest to reach out to a wider audience.

Now what has really sparked this aspect of this industry is digital technology. Digital technology has altered the landscape for many industries for the better and the plastic surgery industry is certainly one of them. Now patients can see what to expect without notifying anyone. The privacy issue is a top concern for many people and website pictures allow for someone’s privacy to remain intact.

Dr. Kim’s website allows patients to see what breast reduction will look on them. This means that when they choose to pay for this type of surgery they know what to expect and know what they signed up for. This alleviates the pressure off of everyone involved.

Breast Reduction Surgery Recovery | Beverly Hills Plastic SurgeryAdvancements in surgical techniques over the years have made procedures such as breast reduction cosmetic surgery less invasive and more effective. However, breast reduction still involves a significant recovery process, which is integral to the overall procedure. Patients who are prepared to diligently follow the surgeon’s instructions will usually achieve faster and easier recovery.

Dr. Eugene Kim is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast reduction and other innovative and advanced procedures for the breast, body and face. Dr. Kim will explain to the patient about the recovery aspect during the initial consultation. He provides breast reduction to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Estimated Downtime

Following breast reduction cosmetic surgery, the patient will be required to stay at home for at least one week and take plenty of rest during this period. Mild walks and light activities within the home are encourage during this period to improve blood flow. Contact with incision areas should be minimized, and the patient should take care not to put strain on the incisions until they have reasonably healed.

Each patient may have slightly different recovery period, depending on the amount of breast tissue removed, the skill of the operating surgeon and the patient’s natural healing ability. Most patients will be ready to return to their regular activities or go back to work in about 10 to 14 days. But heavy lifting of weights and strenuous exercises should be avoided for at least one month.

Compression Garments

Following breast reduction, the breasts will be wrapped in bandages. The next day of surgery the patient may have to visit the surgeon’s office to have the bandages removed. These will be replaced with a special surgical bra or compression garment that the patient will have to wear throughout the early recovery phase. The bra should be worn at all times except when bathing.

The surgical bra or a wrap-style compression garment will provide support to the breast tissue and muscle, and help the breasts to firmly acquire their new shape. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast reduction surgery.

Avoiding Tobacco

Tobacco smoke and post-operative healing do not mix. The nicotine content in tobacco can cause the blood vessels to shrink, leading to reduced oxygen levels in the blood. This can obstruct the function of red blood cells, slow down the pace of recovery, and increase the risk of complications. The surgeon will specify the time period before and after breast reduction when smoking must be totally avoided.

Pain Management

The surgeon will prescribe some pain medications for the first few days of recovery. The patient will have relief from pain and discomfort while the initial bruising and soreness improves. The patient will have to refrain from driving or performing other such activities requiring full alertness while she is on pain meds. If the post-operative pain is acute or persists for a long time, the patient should contact the surgeon.

Breast Reduction Plastic Surgery Cost | Beverly Hills | Los AngelesBreast reduction surgery today ranks among the more popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the US. During the pre-op consultation, the breast surgeon will explain to the patient about all aspects of the procedure and also discuss its estimated costs. The surgeon’s first goal will be to educate the patient and help her make an informed decision.

Breast reduction surgery costs will usually vary between two practices, and sometimes even between two patients at the same practice. In a few cases, the costs may be fully or partially covered under health insurance. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast reduction to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Cost Factors

The costs of breast reduction cosmetic surgery can be impacted by a number of factors. Key cost components in this surgery typically include:

  • Breast surgeon’s fee
  • Charges of the surgical center
  • Fee charged by the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist
  • Pre- and post-operative tests and mammograms
  • Prescription drugs
  • Surgical bra and compression garment
  • Post-surgical appointments with the surgeon

Breast reduction surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure. However, if the patient requires an overnight stay at the hospital, the cost will go up. Other factors that can affect the actual cost of surgery include:

  • Geographical location of the practice
  • Skills and experience of the plastic surgeon
  • Amount of breast tissue removal and complications in a particular case
  • Additional procedures, in any, such as breast lift or liposuction

Cost Assessment

Breast reduction surgery costs should be assessed in view of the quality standards and services provided at a practice. If the patient is being offered an unusually low price for the procedure, they should do their due diligence and exercise abundant discretion when evaluating such an offer. If hidden charges are involved, the patient may end up paying more in the end.

At the time of initial consultation, the patient should clarify all doubts and concerns about costs, and take even seemingly minor pre- and post-surgical costs into account. While surgeon’s fee is a key cost element, the patient should ideally choose a fully trained and board certified plastic surgeon with a proven track record.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), patients should select the right surgeon for her needs, and consider surgeon’s fee only as a secondary factor. Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast reduction.

Insurance and Financing

In a few cases, breast reduction may become a medically necessary procedure if the patient suffers from persistent pain in the back, neck or shoulders, or experiences frequent skin infection or rashes at the breast crease. If these conditions can be proved, the patient could be eligible for full or partial insurance coverage.

Other patients will usually have multiple financing options to choose from. They may seek loans through professional medical care financing firms. These loans typically have lower interest rates, quick loan approvals, and easier monthly installments.

Breast Reduction Surgery | Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery | Los AngelesReduction mammaplasty, commonly known as breast reduction, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to reduce the volume and size of excessively large breasts to make them proportionate to the rest of the body.

While the procedure is usually performed for cosmetic reasons, some women may also need it for medical reasons if they are experiencing persistent pain and discomfort in the neck, shoulders or back, skin rashes, and other problems due to oversized breasts.

Common Problems with Very Large Breasts

Oversize breasts will disrupt the natural balance and proportion of a woman’s body, and may also cause other concerns. Physical movements, sports activities and exercises may be restricted, and simple acts such as bending may become difficult. Many patients with this problem may hesitate to wear tighter clothes of their choice, and feel embarrassed about their body in social gatherings.

Medical problems such as pain in the back, neck and shoulders, and rashes or infection in the breast fold may occur in some cases. Dr. Eugene Kim is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast reduction and other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Ideal Candidates

A woman who is in general good health, but unhappy with the appearance of heavy and pendulous breasts may make a good candidate for breast reduction cosmetic surgery. Some candidates may not have aesthetic worries, but may suffer from physical discomfort, movement restrictions, or may feel self-conscious due to oversized breasts.

Sterling candidates will be non-smokers or committed to keeping away from smoking for a specified period of time as suggested by the surgeon. The candidate should have clear cosmetic goals and realistic expectations. She should also be dedicated to maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle after the breast reduction surgery.

Surgical Procedure

Once the patient is placed under anesthesia, the surgeon will begin the procedure by creating an incision in a discreet location as per the pre-determined surgical plan. The incision may be made in a keyhole pattern or placed around the areolar border. Anchor shaped or vertical incisions may be used depending on the amount of fat tissue to be removed.

Through the incision, the surgeon will remove the excess fat tissue and trim away loose breast skin. In some cases, the underlying weak breast muscles may also be tightened or repositioned. Resizing and repositioning of nipples may also be carried out. The breast tissue will be sutured deep inside to support the new shape of breasts.

After the surgery, the incisions will be closed carefully with removable or absorbable sutures. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast reduction.

Recovery

Following breast reduction, most patients can go back to their normal routine or return to work in about seven to 10 days. Bruising will start resolving soon, but swelling will subside gradually over several weeks or months. The patient should follow the surgeon’s instructions for safer and faster recovery.

Choose a Facelift Plastic Surgeon You can Trust | Beverly HillsFace is an aesthetically complex part of the body with multiple facial features that must harmonize with each other.

Therefore, any facial cosmetic surgery procedure such as facelift should only be performed a fully trained and experienced surgeon. The surgeon’s goal should be not only to reduce the facial signs of aging, but also ensure that the results are healthy, sustainable, and natural looking.

Dr. Eugene Kim is a double board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift and other procedures to restore a more youthful, vibrant appearance. Patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive facelift surgery from Dr. Kim.

Customization

Each individual’s facial structure and features are unique. Their skin type and thickness, degree of skin laxity, and the underlying bone structure are also different. Therefore, it is critical to have the facelift cosmetic surgery procedure performed by a surgeon who will create a customized surgical plan and tailor the procedure according to the patient’s specific anatomical and aesthetic needs.

If the surgeon adopts a one size fits all or cookie cutter approach to facelift surgery, the results may not turn out to be desirable or satisfactory for the patient. Patients should choose a surgeon who is willing to spend time on customizing the facelift surgery, and carefully incorporates the patient’s personal cosmetic goals and needs into the plan.

The surgeon should encourage the patient to share their innate aesthetic desires and pay careful attention to their specific concerns regarding their facial look.

Balancing Science and Art

Best results with facelift surgery can be achieved when the surgeon has a natural sense of art and aesthetics along with strong surgical skills. Such a surgeon will be able to apply the principles of symmetry, balance, and proportion to create a facial appearance that is not only more youthful, but also more pleasing and natural looking.

Patients should review the facelift before and after photos of previous patients who have received the procedure from the surgeon. Their results will reveal to a significant extent about the surgeon’s skill to balance art and science for a facelift. The patient should also request for testimonials of earlier patients who have received facelift from the surgeon. That will provide insights about the experience and satisfaction levels of previous patients with the surgeon.

Open Communication

The patient should choose a surgeon with whom they feel comfortable as well as confident about sharing their innate needs, concerns, and desires. The surgeon should be a good listener and encourage the patient to ask questions to clear all their doubts in a free and frank manner. They should answer every question to the patient’s satisfaction in a patient-friendly language.

The surgeon should be accessible to the patient right from the first consultation until the actual surgery followed by recovery. If the patient is able to quickly establish a sensible rapport and a relationship of trust with the surgeon, it will go a long way to impact the final results of the surgery. Practiced plastic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for facelift.

Facelift Plastic Surgery Procedure Steps | Beverly Hills | Los AngelesFacelift cosmetic surgery procedure is designed to reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines, provide a subtle lift to the sagging skin, and restore a more youthful facial appearance. A number of facelift surgery techniques are available today, which may be used according to the patient’s facial anatomy and personal aesthetic goals. But the overall procedure steps largely remain the same in each case.

Dr. Eugene Kim is a double board certified plastic surgeon offering facelift and other innovative and advanced cosmetic procedures. During the initial consultation, Dr. Kim will explain about the steps involved in facelift surgery, and make them feel reassured and confident about the procedure. He provides facelift to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities.

Anesthesia

Once the patient is moved into the operating room, the first step will be to place the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. This will be done as per the pre-determined surgical plan. The patient will remain completely comfortable and asleep throughout the procedure.

In case of general anesthesia, the patient will be monitored by an anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist during the surgery. In the rare event of an adverse reaction to anesthesia, they will be able to anticipate the condition early and minimize the risk.

Incision Placement

Following anesthesia, the surgeon will begin the facelift cosmetic surgery procedure by placing incisions in pre-decided locations. The incisions will be placed in well-concealed areas to minimize subsequent scarring. The major incision may be placed above the hairline to make the scar less visible.

Any additional facial incisions will be placed in the natural facial creases, which can hide the scars well after healing. In case of a traditional facelift, the incision typically begins from behind the hairline on one side of the face, slightly above the temple. It then follows the hairline down to the ear to end in the lower scalp under the hair.

Tightening Sagging Skin and Muscles

Through the incisions, the plastic surgeon will gently lift the facial skin from the underlying tissue. Excess fat tissue will be removed or redistributed evenly, and loose skin will be excised. Weak underlying muscles will be tightened to firm up the facial contours. Once the procedure is completed, the surgeon will re-drape the skin smoothly and tightly and reattach it will staples or sutures.

The incisions will be finally covered with a bandage. The nursing staff will move the patient to a monitoring area for a few hours where the patient can recover from the initial effects of anesthesia and surgery. Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for facelift surgery.

Additional Procedures

Sometimes the facelift surgery may be combined with other surgical or non-surgical face and neck procedures such as neck lift, brow lift, eyelid lift, cheek or chin augmentation, rhinoplasty, facial fat transfer or facial liposuction. The procedural steps may have to be adjusted according to the customized surgical plan in such cases.

  • Do you have a board certification in plastic surgery, and from which board?
  • Are you a member of any professional organizations such as the ASPS?
  • For how long have you performed cosmetic surgical procedures, and have trained for how many years?
  • Do you have past experience of performing facelift surgery, and what is your success rate in this procedure?
  • Are you affiliated with any accredited surgery centers where my facelift procedure may be performed?

  • Is your practice equipped to handle any medical emergencies?
  • What will be the duration of facelift surgery procedure?
  • What are the potential risks and complications involved?
  • What will be the estimated cost of facelift surgery, including pre- and post-operative expenses?

Preparing for Facelift Plastic Surgery | Beverly Hills | Santa MonicaA thoroughly prepared patient will be able to go through facelift cosmetic surgery with relative ease and achieve safer and more predictable results. Preparation process begins from the time of initial consultation. The surgeon will provide the guidelines for proper preparation, which the patient should follow in a committed manner.

Dr. Eugene Kim is a board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities.

Refraining from Smoking and Certain Medications

The surgeon will require the patient to stop smoking for a certain period of time prior to the facelift cosmetic surgery. Tobacco smoke contains nicotine, which hampers the free flow of oxygen in the blood. This can lead to slow healing and increased risk of complications.

Blood thinning medications such as aspirin, certain prescription drugs, herbal supplements and vitamin E are some of the items that will have to be temporarily stopped. Prescription drug schedule may be adjusted in consultation with the doctor.

Advance Arrangements

A working individual should apply for leave from work for at least one week to allow for adequate rest at home and safe healing following facelift. Even non-working patients should make alternate arrangements for the first few days when they may not be able to performed household chores.

The patient should also arrange in advance for a responsible person to drive them back home after the facelift surgery. Any pressing tasks at home or office should be completed ahead of time so that the patient is exposed to minimal stress during the recovery. Some patients like to prepare a ‘recovery kit’ that includes handy items required during the downtime phase, which may include:

  • Over the counter pain medications
  • Prescription drugs and antibiotics
  • Bandages
  • Extra pillows to keep the head elevated
  • Button down clothes that avoid the need to go overhead
  • Favorite music CDs and movie DVDs

Just a Day before Surgery

On the day before the facelift surgery, the patient should wash the hair properly to ensure maximum hygiene. They should refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 48 hours prior to the surgery. The patient should take adequate rest and sleep well on the night before the surgery.

The Day of Surgery

Some calming medication may be given to the patient on the morning of the surgery to keep them relaxed. Antibiotic regimen may also begin before the surgery. Facelift surgery can take about two to three hours, and the patient and the attendant should be informed about the duration.

Following the surgery, the patient will be shifted to an observation area for a few hours. Before the patient is ready to go home, the surgeon’s team will usually provide a list of post-operative care instructions along with the date of the first post-surgical appointment.

Aftercare

For the first three or four days after facelift, the patient may hire the services of a professional nursing assistant, or may request a friend or relative to stay over for help. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for facelift surgery.
