What to Expect During Your Consultation For Breast Lift With Implants Surgery

What to Expect During Your Consultation For Breast Lift With Implants Surgery

Breast Lift With Implants Surgery

Your pre-op consultation is a key component of your overall surgical process for breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery. You should proactively engage with the surgeon during the consultation to help ensure that your results are safe and predictable.

A productive consultation will set the stage for a successful surgery, and will give you the confidence to go ahead with the procedure with a positive mindset. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast implants with lift surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities.

Understanding the Procedure

To make the right decision about your breast implants with lift plastic surgery, you should have a clear understanding of how the procedure fits your anatomical and aesthetic goals and needs.

You should also know what the surgical process will entail so that you commit to the preparatory, surgical, and recovery stages, which are all vital to the success of your procedure.

Your surgeon will explain you the advantages and limitations of a combined breast augmentation and breast lift surgery, and why you might be an ideal candidate for a combined procedure rather than a single surgery.

Questions and Answers

During your initial consultation, you should feel free to ask questions that you may have about the surgeon’s background, their practice details, and issues related to the procedure, such as costs, risks, and benefits. A dedicated surgeon will take the time to answer all your questions accurately during the consultation.

It is prudent to note down your list of questions in advance and carry the list to your consultation so that none of the important issues are missed out. Your surgeon may also ask you about your personal cosmetic goals, needs, and aspirations to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for breast augmentation with lift.

Customized Surgical Plan

Breast lift with implants surgery can be performed using different techniques. Your surgeon will discuss with you the type and size of breast implants you want to choose, and whether you require areola repositioning along with breast lift. A customized surgical plan will be prepared after taking into account your anatomical needs and your personal cosmetic goals.

Your surgeon will also assess your previous surgeries in the breast area, if any, and your medical history to determine your fitness for this combined procedure. Breast implants with lift is often performed using general anesthesia, and the procedure may take two to three hours in the operating room.

Therefore, it’s vital to determine your candidacy, and plan the incisions and surgical technique in consultation with you.

Pre- and Post-Operative Care Instructions

Your surgeon will utilize the initial consultation to provide you guidelines about the pre-operative preparation steps as well as post-surgical recovery instructions. They may require you to stop smoking and change the schedule of certain ongoing medications in consultation with your physician.

Your surgeon will also give you an idea of how much time you will need for recovery, so that you can plan your surgery date accordingly. If you are working, you can apply for leave for a few days after consulting with your surgeon. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast augmentation with lift surgery.

What Should You Expect During Recovery From Breast Lift Surgery With Implants?

Breast Lift Surgery With Implants

Breast lift with augmentation is a safe and proven cosmetic surgery procedure to correct your sagging and deflated breasts through a combined tissue lifting and implant placement. After your surgery, you will need to go through a recovery process for a few days. A strong recovery is vital to achieving desirable and sustainable results from your surgery.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides breast lift with implants surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding communities.

Managing Pain and Discomfort

You will experience mild pain and soreness in your incision areas after the effects of general anesthesia wear off. For the first few days, you can take pain medications as prescribed by your surgeon. Bruising and swelling will appear more pronounced in the first week, but will begin to subside from the second week.

You should perform short walks and light activities at home in the first week. This will help ensure that the blood flow to the incision sites is maintained and healing is faster. Around the mid or end of second week, you should have recovered enough to return to your normal routine or go back to your job.

Sleeping and Bathing

Avoid sleeping on your abdomen or sides for the first two to three weeks after your breast augmentation with lift plastic surgery. Do not bend or lift heavy weights or perform any activities that put excess strain on your chest.

Avoid showering or bathing in the first one or two days after your procedure, and ask your surgeon when they would recommend you to resume normal bathing routine. Raising your hands to wash hair in the first few days may be difficult, but your condition will improve rapidly from the second week.

Healthy Healing of Scars

Treat your incision areas with extra care in the first few weeks to ensure your wounds heal well and the subsequent scarring is minimized. Make sure the surgical dressings applied to the incision sites remain clean and dry. In a few days, your surgeon will replace the dressings with a special surgical bra for extra support to your tissue.

Protect incisions against direct sun exposure for several weeks or months. Avoid smoking throughout the recovery phase to ensure that your healing is healthy and scarring is under control. Talk to your surgeon about any topical scar reduction products they may recommend.

Resuming Your Exercise Regimen

You can resume your regular fitness and exercise regimen in about four to six weeks once your surgeon gives you the go-ahead for it. You may also consider massage therapy in the breast area from a trained therapist if your surgeon advises.

Even after four to six weeks, you may continue to avoid strenuous sports activities that put more strain on the chest (such as golf or tennis) for some more time. Long-term focus on a healthy diet and regular exercise will help improve the longevity of your results of breast implants with lift surgery.

How much does a breast lift with implants cost?

Breast lift with implants

Breast lift with implants is mostly performed as an elective cosmetic surgery, which means that you may not have insurance coverage for this procedure. Therefore, cost becomes an important factor to consider in your decision to go ahead with this surgery.

At the time of initial consultation, your surgeon will explain various aspects of the surgery, discuss alternative procedures, and inform you about the estimated financial factors to help you make a suitable choice.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast lift with implants to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Cost-Effectiveness of a Combined Surgery

Compared to an independent cosmetic surgery such as breast augmentation or breast lift, the cost of a combined breast lift with implants is likely to be higher. However, if you compare the total costs of the two procedures performed separately versus the cost of the combined surgery, the breast lift with implants procedure will prove to be more cost-effective.

In a combined surgery, the general anesthesia will be only performed once, which means that you only pay the anesthesiologist’s fee once. Similarly, your surgery room expenses will occur just once in a combined procedure. Your surgeon may charge a different fee for this more elaborate surgery, but it may still be lower than what they would charge for two separate surgeries at different times.

You will go through a single recovery process after your breast implants with lift surgery. This will mean you pay just one time for any pre- and post-op tests, prescription medications, bandages and other recovery expenses. If you are working, you will only have to take a break from work one time for recovery, which could also have beneficial cost implications in some cases.

Pricing Variation

The actual sticker price of breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery may vary from one practice to another and even from one patient to another. Surgeon’s fee and anesthesia and surgical room expenses can vary according to the skills and experience of the professionals, the location of the practice, and the kind of services they provide.

The monetary amount of breast implants will be a component in your breast implant with lift surgery costs. Ultra-cohesive silicone implants may cost slightly more compared to traditional saline implants or regular silicone implants. You should freely discuss all cost-related issues with your surgeon at the time of pre-operative consultation.

A committed surgeon will provide you the most accurate and transparent information to help you make a well-considered decision.

Financing

Breast augmentation with lift is a major cosmetic procedure, and you may consider your financing options well ahead of time. Several medical care financing companies offer competitive loans for up to 60 months for elective plastic surgery procedures. You can pay back the loan in convenient monthly installments without significantly affecting your household budget.

What happens during a breast lift with implants?

Breast lift with implants

Breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery involves removal of loose breast skin as well as placement of saline or silicone implants to restore a larger and firmer breast appearance. If you are worried about your droopy breasts or downward pointing nipples along with loss of breast volume, you could be a candidate for breast augmentation with lift.

The advantage with the combined procedure is that you may not require excessively large implants to achieve your desired results. Your surgeon will be able to increase the cup size while also raising your breasts to a more youthful position. Your breasts will acquire a more youthful and natural looking appearance than they would when only one of these procedures is performed independently.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast lift with implants to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Candidacy

If you are seeking larger sized breasts along with a more defined breast contour and a firmer, perkier look, you could be a candidate for breast implant with lift cosmetic surgery.

Whether you are unhappy with the progressive effects of aging on your breasts, or you have experienced breast volume loss and saggy breasts following pregnancy or a major weight loss, you may correct these conditions with breast augmentation with lift.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation is ideal when you want to increase your breast size. The surgery involves the placement of saline or silicone implants to increase your breast cup size. Breast augmentation currently ranks as the most popular procedure in the US, and breast implant qualities have been approved by the FDA for safety.

Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery, unlike breast augmentation, is designed to restructure loose breast skin, muscle and tissue to provide a subtle lift to the breasts. The procedure involves surgical removal of excess breast skin to create tighter and firmer breasts.

If the nipples are pointing downwards, the repositioning of the areolas and nipples can be performed to create a natural looking breast appearance.

Post-operative Recovery

You may experience some swelling and discomfort in the first week after the breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery. Your surgeon will prescribe some pain medications to keep you comfortable. Temporary drains may be placed in the incision sites after the surgery. These will be removed in a few days as the healing improves.

You may be required to wear a special surgical bra for several weeks until your new breast shape firms up. In about 10 to 14 days after the procedure, you can resume your daily activities or return to work.

Post-Surgical Scarring

Some degree of scarring is unavoidable after a breast implant with lift procedure. However, chances are that the scarring will lesser compared to when both breast lift and augmentation are performed separately. Your surgeon will use the same incisions to perform both procedures at the same time.

In any case, the incisions will be placed as discreetly as possible to ensure visible scarring is minimal. Plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast augmentation with lift.

What are the pros and cons of a breast lift with implants?

Breast lift with implants

As you get older, you may start feeling that your breasts are aging too. The breast skin may become loose, causing the breasts to sag. At the same time, the loss of volume may occur, giving the breasts a “deflated” look. You could also experience these issues after pregnancy or after a major weight loss.

Many women want to choose either breast augmentation cosmetic surgery or a breast lift to restore appearance. However, if you are struggling with both breast volume loss as well as loose breast skin, just one procedure may not produce the best results.

In this situation, your surgeon may recommend breast lift with implants. At the time of initial consultation, they will explain the pros and cons of this combined procedure to help you make the right decision. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast lift with implants to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities.

Advantages of a Combined Surgery

To create a comprehensive new look of your breasts, breast augmentation with lift may be necessary. While it is possible to undergo both these surgeries separately at different times, you can achieve the optimal benefits when you choose a combined breast lift with implants surgery.

The most important benefit is that your surgeon can create the optimal cosmetic results with a combined breast augmentation and lift surgery. If the breast skin is loose, and you only want implants, you may have to choose larger and heavier implants, which will further cause the breast skin to sag over time.

Similarly, if the breasts are smaller and you choose only breast lift, it may reduce the size even further when excess breast skin is removed and the breasts are tightened.

A third possibility is that you undergo both augmentation and lift surgery at different times. Here again, the challenge is that if breast lift has already been performed, the surgeon may not have sufficient skin available to accommodate your desired size of breast implants at a later stage.

Another key benefit of breast lift with implants is that you will only go through general anesthesia once and have only one pre-op preparation and post-operative recovery period. The surgeon may be able to minimize the incisions to perform both procedures together so that subsequent scarring is reduced.

Disadvantages of a Combined Surgery

The surgery becomes relatively more invasive when both breast implants and breast lift are performed at the same time. The time you spend in the surgery room will be slightly longer, and your post-surgical recovery would be longer too.

As both these procedures are usually elective, cost could be another consideration for many patients. While the overall procedure is more cost-effective, in absolute terms you will have to pay for the combined surgery costs as well as the costs of implants when you choose breast augmentation with lift surgery.

In any case, if you are a candidate for breast implants with lift, the benefits will significantly outweigh the limitations in most cases. Plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast augmentation with lift.

What is a breast lift with implants?

Breast lift with implants

A breast lift (mastopexy) combined with breast implants can help a woman achieve fuller, perkier, and younger looking breasts. Depending on your goals, your surgeon may recommend breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery to make your breasts appear firmer and tighter. The procedure can also be used to reposition your nipples so that they do not point downward.

A breast lift with breast augmentation surgery is performed at one time using general anesthesia. The implants will add volume to the upper pole of your breasts, while the breast lift will remove loose and sagging breast skin to create a tighter and more youthful look.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast lift with implants to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Procedure

Following anesthesia, your surgeon will place incisions in pre-determined locations according to the customized surgery plan. They could place a circumferential incision around the areola, and another vertical incision from the lower half of the areola to the base of your breast.

Breast implants can be placed through these incisions and are usually placed beneath the pectoral muscle. Using the same incisions, your surgeon will eliminate the excess breast skin and tighten the breast tissue to produce firmer and lifted breasts.

The combined plastic surgery procedure can be completed in about two hours, but this can vary marginally between patients.

Recovery

You can expect to return to your normal routine or go back to your workplace in about one to two weeks. However, you should avoid strenuous exercises and sports for about one month. Bruising will resolve largely in the first two weeks, but the swelling will take some more time to subside.

Your surgeon may prescribe pain meds for the first few days to keep you comfortable. Make sure you visit the surgeon’s office for follow-up appointments and adhere to their post-op care instructions for best results.

While you will be able to notice the enhancement in your breast size and shape immediately after the bandages are removed, the full results will develop over a few months as the swelling completely resolves and the breast tissue acquires its firm shape.

Optional Procedures with Mastopexy-Augmentation

If you are bothered by the appearance of loose abdominal skin and weak muscle tone in the waist region, you may consider tummy tuck surgery along with your breast lift with implants.

For removing excess fat pockets from certain areas such as buttocks, thighs and upper arms, you may choose liposuction cosmetic surgery. Breast lift with augmentation could also be a part of a mommy makeover to restore a pre-pregnancy figure.

Advantage of a Combined Procedure

The benefit of choosing a combined procedure is that you will only need to undergo general anesthesia once, and the entire procedure can be completed at one time. You will only go through downtime once to recover from the combined surgery, and the recovery process will be quite similar to that of an individual breast lift or breast augmentation.

Breast Implant Removal After Rupture/Capsular Contracture

Breast Implant Removal After Rupture/Capsular Contracture | Beverly HillsWhen you had your primary breast augmentation cosmetic surgery, it may not have occurred to you that at some point in the future you may need to sign up for breast implant removal.

But the fact is that many women who have breast implants choose to have them removed at a later stage. The reasons for doing could be breast implant complications such as implant rupture or capsular contracture.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides procedures for the breast, body, and face to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

What is breast implant removal?

Breast implant removal is a plastic surgery procedure to reverse the effects of breast augmentation. The surgeon will remove the implants or may replace them with new implants, depending on your preference and your health condition. Surgical options related to breast implant removal usually include:

  • Implant removal and their replacement with new implants
  • Implant removal without replacement
  • Implant removal without replacement but accompanied by a breast lift surgery

If you have suffered from breast implant related complications, such as capsular contracture, implant rupture, or infection, it may be necessary remove the implants. Implant removal may also be required if you develop a calcium build-up, infection or necrosis (development of dead tissue around the implant).

Some women also seek breast implant removal due to their changes cosmetic preferences. They may want to choose new type, size or shape of implants, or may simply wish to restore their natural breast appearance as before.

Procedure

The surgeon will usually perform breast implant removal with the patient under general anesthesia. The procedure will take one to three hours in the operating room. In most cases, patients are able to go back home the same day of the surgery. The common techniques to perform this cosmetic surgery include:

Implant Removal Only

The surgeon will try to make the incisions in the same place where the original breast augmentation was performed. If you have had a capsular contracture, they will remove the complete hardened capsule to promote the healing process.

Implant Removal with Breast Lift

Breast lift may be performed at the same time with implant removal surgery, if the breast skin has sagged or stretched over time. The procedure will involve excision of loose breast skin to tighten and firm up the breast tissue and provide better support. Areolas may also be resized to match with the new breast shape.

Deflation of Saline Implants

If you require removal of your saline breast implants, the surgeon will probably deflate them first before removing them. If no implant replacement or breast lift procedure is involved, a simple deflation procedure may even be performed using local anesthesia and mild sedation because it will involve very small incisions.

In certain cases, en bloc capsulectomy may be the preferred technique where silicone implants are involved, and the surgeon wants to remove them along with the breast capsule as one unit.

How often do you need to replace breast implants?

How often do you need to replace breast implants? | Beverly HillsHigh quality, modern breast implants do not have an expiry date, but they are not guaranteed to last forever. On average, both silicone and saline implants could last somewhere between 10 and 20 years.

But in some cases, the breast implant removal or replacement cosmetic surgery may have to be performed sooner because the patient has either developed complications, or wants to remove or change them due to her personal cosmetic preferences. Nearly one in five women have their breast implants removed or replaced within 10 years.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides procedures for the breast, body and face to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities.

Need for Implant Removal or Replacement

Breast implant removal or replacement may become necessary in the following situations.

Implants have hardened

A woman may develop capsular contracture at some point after her breast augmentation plastic surgery. In this case, the scar tissue enveloping the implant will become hardened, and may cause tightness or discomfort in the chest. Some women may also develop undesirable cosmetic changes to the breast appearance.

Rupture of saline implants

A hole or tear in the saline implant shell may cause it to deflate. This will result in leakage of the saline solution, which will naturally get reabsorbed by your body. Once all the saline has leaked out, the deflation will become quite obvious to the patient. Saline implant rupture risks will increase over time, but are rarely reported in the first few years.

Silicone implant rupture

Silicone gel is highly cohesive, so if the silicone implant ruptures, chances are that the gel may not move out of the implant or the surrounding scar tissue. As a result, you may not even notice the rupture or experience any symptoms. Silicone implant rupture will be noticeable during an MRI. While silicone implants last for a long time, some may develop ruptures in 10 year or more on average.

Implant palpability and rippling

Rippling in your breast implant may occur at any stage, and the ripples or wrinkles will begin to show on your breast skin. When you touch your breast, you may be able to feel the palpability and ripples. Once this condition occurs, most women like to consider breast implant removal or replacement.

Implant shifting

Your breast tissue will continue to sag with the natural aging process even after your breast augmentation surgery. Gravity, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and other factors may also contribute to sagging breasts. This may cause your implant to move from its original position, or one breast may hang lower than the other. Nipples may also point in a divergent direction in this condition.

At the time of initial consultation for your primary breast augmentation surgery, a dedicated breast implant surgeon will inform you about the possibility of implant removal or replacement in the long run – at least once in your lifetime. You should make an informed choice after carefully considering this possibility.
