What Type of Implant is Best for Breast Augmentation?

Spread the love

Experienced Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim understands that breast augmentation is not a “one-size-fits-all” procedure.

During your initial breast augmentation consultation, we will discuss your aesthetic goals and assess your body type to find the options best suited for you. Choosing the right type of breast implants is key in providing you the look you desire.

Both saline and silicone implants have their advantages and drawbacks, and both are capable of providing different looks. Your body type, general health and cosmetic goals will ultimately be the deciding factors in which type of breast implant is best for you.

Some questions to consider as you discuss your breast implant options with Dr. Kim include:

  • Do I want a visible outline?
  • Do I want a rounded shape or a more natural contour?
  • What type of implant will best fit my lifestyle?
  • Do I want the option of changing the implant size after it’s been placed?

Saline breast implants are filled after placement and typically require a smaller incision than silicone breast implants. While some saline implants are designed for a fixed volume, others are adjustable, which can be ideal for women who have asymmetrical breasts. Although problems such as rippling or wrinkling are rare, saline breast implants have a higher incidence of these issues than silicone breast implants.

Silicone breast implants are prefilled and tend to offer a more natural feel and contour than saline breast implants. Based on your body type and aesthetic desires, Dr. Kim may recommend one type over another.
