Does Breast Augmentation Hurt?

Spread the love

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure, and as such there can be some discomfort during the recovery period. This pain is temporary, and can be minimized with medication and proper post-operative care.

There are some breast augmentation options, such as the placement of your breast implants, that will affect the length of your recovery period. For placement under the muscle, recovery time is typically longer due to the amount of tissue that will be impacted during your breast augmentation procedure. This placement option can offer superior aesthetic results and may help prevent risks such as capsular contracture, but it also requires lifting the muscle off the chest and may result in slightly more discomfort after surgery.

The first step in minimizing discomfort after breast augmentation is to carefully follow the recovery guidelines outlined by Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim. You can help reduce discomfort and promote your healing by taking steps including:

  • Wearing the appropriate compression garments and support bra
  • Applying ice packs to the surgical area
  • Taking walks to help increase blood flow and limit swelling
  • Avoiding strenuous physical activity until cleared by Dr. Kim

Although full recovery from breast augmentation surgery can take months, discomfort typically subsides within a few days.
