Facelift Plastic Surgery Procedure Steps

Spread the love

Facelift Plastic Surgery Procedure StepsThe face is aesthetically the most prominent part of the body. That makes facelift one of the important cosmetic surgery procedures to tighten facial skin and restore a youthful appearance. During the pre-op consultation, the facelift surgeon will explain various steps involved in the procedure. Once the patient understands the procedure, they will feel more confident and get relief from the initial anxiety.

Dr. Eugene Kim is a board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift and various other procedures for the breast, body and face. Patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive facelift from Dr. Kim.

Anesthesia

Facelift surgery may be performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Depending on the extent of surgery involved and other factors, the surgeon will finalize the type of anesthesia to be used. A qualified anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist may perform anesthesia.

In case of general anesthesia, the anesthesiologist will usually remain present in the surgery room throughout to keep a check on the patient’s response. The patient will remain in deep slumber throughout the cosmetic surgery, and will be brought out of anesthesia once the procedure is over.

Incision Placement

The facelift surgery procedure will begin with the placement of incisions. The size and location of the incisions will be kept as inconspicuous as possible in order to minimize subsequent scarring. The facelift incision is usually hidden beneath the hairline, but it can vary according to the choice of facelift technique.

Minor incisions can be placed in the natural facial creases because these sites usually heal faster and hide the scars more easily. In case of a full traditional facelift, the incision will begin from behind the hairline on one side of the head, slightly above the temple. It will then follow the hairline down to the ear, continuing into the lower scalp below the hair.

Muscle and Skin Tightening

Through the incisions, the surgeon will raise the facial skin to remove or redistribute excess fat tissue, remove loose facial skin, and tighten the underlying sagging muscles. Once the facial contours are corrected, the skin will be re-draped smoothly and tightly using staples or stitches.

After the procedure, the incisions will be covered with bandages to protect against infection. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for facelift and various other cosmetic procedures.

Additional Procedures with Facelift

In some cases, the facelift surgery may be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures for more effective outcomes. Neck and facial liposuction may be performed to reduce unwanted fat pockets and enhance facial contour.

Facial implants in the cheeks, chin, nose or lips, facial fat transfer, and lip enhancement with soft tissue fillers are some of the procedures that can be combined with facelift. Upper facelift procedures such as brow lift or eyelid lift may be performed to create more even looking results. Facelift procedure steps may have to be slightly altered depending on the additional procedures involved.
