New Report from American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)

New Report from American Society of Plastic SurgeonsASPS released their latest report on cosmetic and plastic surgery recently. The report indicates that overall remedial procedures done in America in 2014 have risen by 3% in comparison with 2013. This number is a consolidation of all surgical procedures and non-surgical procedures that fall under the cosmetic and plastic surgery umbrella.

2014 Cosmetic Surgery Statistics

The combined number for both; surgical and non surgical procedures is 15.6 million in 2014. This number was 15.1 million in 2013. Cosmetic surgical procedures have increased by 1% in 2014 (1,667,478) in comparison with the data from 2013 (1,668,420). However, a comparison between data collected in 2000 and the latest 2014 figures of cosmetic surgical procedures show a decline by 12%.

Top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures in 2014:

  • Augmentation Mammaplasty (sank by 1%; 286,254)
  • Liposuction (rose by 5%; 210,552)
  • Rhytidectomy (sank by 4%; 128,266)
  • Rhinoplasty (sank by 2%; 217,124)
  • Blepharoplasty (dip by 4%; 206,509)

On the other hand, cosmetic non surgical procedures were popular in 2014. They have risen by 4% in 2014 (13,945,388) in comparison with the data for 2013 (13,447,933). A comparison between the numbers for the year 2000 and 2014 shows a colossal rise of 154% in the recognition of non-surgical procedures.

Top 5 cosmetic non-surgical procedures in 2014:

  • Chemical peel (rose by 7%; 1,250,059)
  • Botox (rose by 6%; 6,673,608)
  • Soft Tissue Fillers (rose by 3%; 2,301,673)
  • Laser hair removal (rose by 3%; 1,112,046)
  • Microdermabrasion (sank by 9%; 881,905)

In addition, 2014 witnessed 5.8 million reconstructive surgical procedures that were performed in America. The number comparison between 2014 (5,769,824) and 2013 (5,734,120) shows an increase of 1%.

Top 5 Reconstructive surgical procedures in 2014:

  • Tumor Removal (same as last year; 4.4 million)
  • Laceration Repair ( sank by 1%; 251,000)
  • Maxillofacial Surgery (same as last year; 199,000)
  • Scar Revision (same as last year; 177,000)
  • Hand Surgery (sank by 1%; 130,000)

The widespread ASPS report shows peculiar change in the choices made by consumers, which includes butt implants and pectoral implants in 2014. Butt augmentation by harvesting fat cells from one part of the body and  injecting into the required area has increased by 13% in a period of one year, Buttock implants have risen by 98% ; and Buttock lift has risen by 44%.

His opinion seems to echo with ASPS’ 2014 data which shows an increase in the number of men opting for cosmetic surgery. The procedures include – Gynecomastia is up by 14% in 2014 and pectoral implants are up by a mammoth 208% in 2014).
