Breast Implant Surgery Procedure Steps

Spread the love

Breast Implant Surgery Procedure StepsBreast implant is a major cosmetic surgery procedure involving a number of steps. The surgeon will determine a customized surgical plan to perform breast implant surgery, but the steps involved will mostly remain unchanged in each case. At the time of pre-op consultation, the surgeon will discuss various steps of breast implant surgery.

Patients who are fully aware of what to expect during the surgery will be more confident and will usually make better decisions.

The surgeon may also provide images or videos of the procedure to better explain the procedure. Patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive breast implants from judicious and golden board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim.

Anesthesia

The first step in breast implant procedure after the patient is brought into the surgery room is to place her under anesthesia. The surgeon will mostly recommend general anesthesia, which will be administered by an anesthesiologist or a registered anesthetist nurse. They will remain present throughout the procedure to monitor the patient’s response.

Once the patient is brought out of anesthesia, she will experience mild nausea, grogginess and other side effects for a few hours. Most patients can return home the same day, but they should have some responsible to drive them back home. The patient may also arrange for aftercare for the first few days, if required.

Placing the Incisions

Following anesthesia, the surgeon will begin the cosmetic surgery by placing incisions in discreet locations. The location could be under the breast crease, in the armpit, around the areola border, or even in the navel area in a few cases. Incisions will be placed in a way to minimize subsequent scarring.

At the time of preparing the custom surgical plan, the location and size of the incisions will be determined. The surgeon will take the patient’s breast anatomy, the size and type of implants chosen, and the patient’s unique cosmetic needs into account. Patient’s inputs will be incorporated at every step of the planning process.

Implant Placement

Breast implants may be placed in front of the pectoral muscle right behind the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle. The size of the implants and the patient’s unique breast anatomy will be evaluated while deciding the placement technique. The surgeon will inform the benefits and limitations of each placement option to the patient to help her make the best choice.

Wound Closure

Once the breast implants are placed and adjusted into position, the wounds will be closed with traditional or absorbable sutures. The surgeon will place temporary drainage tubes under the skin in the incision sites. The patient must keep the incision areas free of contamination to minimize the risk of infection.

Bandages and Surgical Bra

After the surgery is over, the incision sites will be covered with bandages to protect the wound. After a while, the surgeon will replace the bandages with a special surgical bra. Profound and astute plastic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA and other areas and suburbs in this part of the nation for breast implants and various other procedures.
