Liposuction For Your Arms

Liposuction

Liposuction For Your ArmsMany people have excess fat deposits in the area along the back of the arm, which are challenging to get rid of with diet and exercise alone.

An experienced plastic surgeon can help tone the outer and inner areas of the arm and simultaneously contour the bicep and shoulders as well.

Liposuction cosmetic surgery can effectively sculpt the arm to enhance its overall shape and appearance more rapidly than any other solution. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides liposuction of the arms to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations.

Need for Arms Liposuction

Patients consider arm liposuction for various reasons, such as:

  • To achieve sleeker arms than tone more easily.
  • To get rid of flabby arms, specifically the back of the arms.
  • To appear more attractive in pictures.
  • To reduce the sagging fat on the back of the arms.

Anesthesia and Treatment Experience

The patient will receive some type of anesthesia during the arms liposuction cosmetic surgery procedure. The surgeon may recommend general, local, or twilight sleep anesthesia.

In general, liposuction of the arms is undertaken using local anesthesia. The patient will experience some stinging during the injection of local anesthesia. This will numb or freeze the arms.

After the arms are numb, the procedure is undertaken typically with little discomfort, although the patient may experience spot sensitivity. When patients are awake during this surgery, they usually describe the procedure as “not delightful, but tolerable.”

General anesthesia and twilight sleep are also options for patients who do not want to feel or remember anything about the procedure. However, these options may involve waking up with a groggy feeling from the anesthesia as well as increased procedure costs.

Arm Liposuction Techniques

Liposuction only eliminates excess fat. It does not tighten or remove sagging or hanging skin. Some patients have enough skin elasticity on the arms to enable them to tighten on their own.

For patients who do not have sufficient skin elasticity in the arm area, the surgeon may recommend combining liposuction with another procedure, such as a tuck.

Many patients are lately curious about laser liposuction as a substitute for traditional liposuction surgery. Laser liposuction is not “better” or “safer” than other liposuction techniques. Similar to traditional liposuction, laser liposuction will not tighten sagging skin.

Liposuction can successfully provide patients with the toned, slim arms that they seek. Patients should remember that the liposuction technique takes a back seat to the surgeon performing it.

An experienced and skilled plastic surgeon will match the technique to the patient’s requirements, and not vice-versa. This is crucial to achieving optimal outcomes.

Recovery

After the surgery, the patient may experience side-effects such as temporary inflammation, bruising, and changes in sensation including tingling and numbness.

The recovery is different for each patient, but patients are generally able to resume work after a few days. The bruising typically resolves in two to four week, and the inflammation subsides over one to two months.

Arm Lift

Upper arm lift or brachioplasty is an excellent procedure to eliminate excess skin in the upper arm area. However, it can leave behind a long scar down the inside of the arm. While the scar will remain inconspicuous when the arms are down at the sides, it may be noticeable when the arm is raised.
