Exercising after a Tummy Tuck

Spread the love

Exercise will be an important component to your tummy tuck aftercare plan; however, it is important to follow Dr. Kim’s instructions carefully during this time. If you overdo it on exercise too soon, it can cause complications with your procedure.

In the first few days following your tummy tuck, you will want to get plenty of rest to facilitate a smooth healing process. However, you should begin light walking the following day after surgery. This will help reduce swelling and decrease your risk of blood clots. Pay careful attention to your body, and don’t push it too hard in these early days of recovery.

Dr. Kim will monitor your progress carefully during the recovery period, and he will advise you as to when you are ready to gradually increase your level of activity. In general, it may take two or three weeks before you can resume most normal levels of activity.

You should avoid strenuous exercise for at least six weeks after your tummy tuck. This includes activities such as running, biking, swimming, abdominal exercises, and heavy lifting. After about six weeks, you can gradually resume these activities as long as Dr. Kim feels you are ready.

Patience will be required in your love life as well. It will be about two or three weeks before you can resume sexual activity following your tummy tuck. However, as with all other forms of exercise and activity, pay attention to your body. If you experience pain or discomfort during intercourse, you most likely need to wait a little longer.
