Nose Reshaping Plastic Surgery Procedure Steps

Spread the love

Nose Reshaping Plastic Surgery Procedure StepsNose reshaping cosmetic surgery or rhinoplasty can be performed using different surgical techniques, depending on the patient’s requirements. However, the fundamental steps in the nose surgical procedure in each case will largely remain unchanged.

During the pre-op consultation the surgeon will clearly outline the procedure steps. This will help clear any anxiety or concerns the patient may have about the surgery. Remarkable, caring, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides nose reshaping surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding locations in this part of SoCal.

Pre-op Consultation

This is the primary step that determines the surgical plan. The surgeon will first try to understand the key reasons why the candidate wants to receive nose reshaping surgery. They will evaluate the candidate’s medical history, examine the nose and facial anatomy, and assess their goals and expectations. In some cases, the surgeon may order some tests in order to circumvent future complications.

Surgical Planning

Once the candidate is found suitable and confirmed for nose reshaping cosmetic surgery, the surgeon will create a personalized surgery plan to address the unique needs of the patient. The surgical plan will be tailored to ensure that the natural harmony and balance of the face remains undisturbed by nose reshaping, and the surgery further enhances the overall facial aesthetics of the patient. The surgeon may additionally include correction of nose deformities in the surgical plan, if required.

Based on the degree of correction required, the surgeon will decide between open and closed rhinoplasty techniques. Supporting details such as the choice of anesthesia, venue for surgery, and incision preferences of the patient will also be finalized.

Surgical Procedure

Anesthesia

The surgeon will recommend either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation in most cases of nose reshaping surgery. A qualified anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist will be present throughout in the operating room to monitor the patient’s response. Once the surgery is completed, the patient will be brought out of anesthesia.

Surgery

The surgeon will place incisions, either below the columella in case of open rhinoplasty, or only inside the nostrils, in case of closed rhinoplasty. Through the incisions, they will alter the internal structures of the nose, including bone, tissue and cartilage.

Depending on the need, nose implants and grafting techniques may also be used to create the required nose shape. The patient will be informed in advance that very minor scarring may be expected in open rhinoplasty, while the scarring is nil or minimal in closed rhinoplasty.

Incision Closure

Once the surgery is completed, the surgeon will carefully close the incisions using sutures. Drain tubes may be placed in the incision sites to collect excess fluid for a few days to minimize infection. Temporary nasal packing will also be used in most cases. About one week from the date of surgery, the nasal packing, drain tubes, and removable sutures will be removed.
