Liposuction Options

Dr. Kim performs liposuction using the following techniques:

  • Tumescent liposuction
  • VASER® Lipo

As the most common type of liposuction, tumescent liposuction is a safe, FDA-approved way to get rid of unwanted fat. Dr. Kim injects the treatment area with a special saline solution that constricts the blood vessels to minimize blood loss. After creating a few very small incisions, Dr. Kim inserts a thin tube called a cannula in order to remove fat cells using vacuum pressure. Tumescent liposuction has many advantages over traditional liposuction, including less bleeding, less swelling, and a quicker recovery.

VASER® Lipo is a newer method of fat removal that has a few key differences from tumescent liposuction. This body-sculpting treatment, a form of ultrasonic liposuction, uses ultrasound technology to heat and dissolve fatty tissue. High-frequency sound is used to break down the fat cells almost instantaneously. Dr. Kim uses a cannula to cleanly remove the liquefied cells without affecting neighboring healthy tissue.
